Green Table Olives from Europe: A Sourcing Guide for Importers
European table olives for wholesale buyers
Green table olives are a distinct product from olive oil. Importers, distributors and private-label buyers should define the intended variety, processing style, packaging and destination requirements before requesting a price. Spain is an important source of table olives, alongside other Mediterranean producing countries.
Specify variety and processing style
Ask whether the offer concerns Manzanilla, Gordal or another named variety. Confirm pitted, whole, sliced or stuffed format; brine formulation; drained weight; net weight; shelf life and intended storage conditions. These specifications affect both price and customer acceptance.
Packaging and private label
Retail jars, cans, pouches and foodservice tins serve different customers. State pack size, units per carton, pallet configuration, label language and required artwork. Private-label availability and minimum runs must be confirmed with the actual packing facility.
Food safety and traceability
Request ingredient and allergen declarations, food-safety documentation, traceability arrangements and relevant batch specifications. Check destination-specific labeling and import requirements. Never assume that a producer holds every certification or can supply every olive style.
Compare realistic landed costs
A fair comparison should use the same drained weight, packaging, quantity and delivery terms. Confirm EXW or CIF named place, lead time, offer validity, shipment documents and payment terms. Samples and a trial order can help assess texture, flavor and packing integrity.
